Modern Church Governance and Authority.

Lets face it. Its a difficult pill to swallow but apostasy has long destroyed the foundations of modern "church" governance. In fact, its so fractured I can't see a reasonable means to say its has any practical function for those in Christ Jesus!
Let me see if I can get across what I'm trying to say in a practical manner......
I've long argued and challenged the beliefs of most anyone associated with Christianity. Its often gotten me into more trouble than I care to remember. I've been "labelled" a trouble maker by some. Invariably when I start discussing the "Truth" with most anyone the subject always seem to descend in someone wanting to know what "church" I attend.
I've learned to start that conversation off with the question, "What church would you prefer I attend".
Those people that ask this question don't genuinely care about my well being or the state of my relationship with God. They just don't. Its the only argument they have to defend themselves against the Truth I present. Truth be told, they wouldn't have me in their church. They'd ask me to move or worse.... I know. I've been there before.
These people genuinely believe they has some special position with God that "trumps" my position. Thus, they have authority that I do not have. Of courses, they utter fail to prove this. Its impossible to prove. Jesus proved Himself with signs and wonders. With great power and Spirit filled words of "Life". Never a man spake like our Lord.... So did the apostles. Great power on display, confirming their authority. I know I know, there are people that claim the same things happens today. I don't have to argue that it can't happen. I argue that it doesn't happen. No one is going around healing the sick and raising the dead like our Lord and the apostles. It just isn't happening.
My question.....
So just how do we find "authority" in modern Christianity? There is really only one source of authority in Modern Christianity and its not the local church leadership.
Anyone care to detail that source?
