  WHICH IS THE BEST COMPUTER SYSTEM?   Introduction
  
  
  For weeks now, I have been enjoying Windows 10, Chrome, and Linux every day. And while I still have lot to learn, I can discuss which one is the best. Online “tests” of these operating systems show varied results, with accusations of “Foul!” from fans of the losers. But I like all three systems. However, someone has to come in last, so:
  
  
  1) I will go through various categories, giving 1 point to the winner, 0 points to #2, and -1 to the loser. In case of a tie, the tied OS's will each get a 0.
  
  
  2) To be fair, I will only use a limited criteria. You can easily fake the results by dividing one OS you like into several groups (with your favorite OS winning every time), while uniting an OS you don’t like into one group.
  
  
  3) My criteria assume that the user is familiar with Windows, and therefor knows how to operate a computer.
  
  
  And of course, courteous disagreements are welcome.

  This one isn’t debatable—Windows has the best games. Not only does it excel in high-tech games, but it has far more mid-level and simple games than the other two systems combined.
  
  I find that while both Chrome and Linux have some excellent games, Chrome has more. Plus, many Linux games require installing an “engine” before you can play.

  Windows is by far the most usable OS. I used to hate it, but they've made it much better and much more stable (although 10 still has that bug where it turns on the computer minutes after I turn it off). It's still far from perfect, but unless you're dealing with the innards of Windows (which are really a mess), you'll have a great experience with it. It's the primary OS I use these days.
  
  Linux is by far the most powerful OS, except for games. Other than games, you can do virtually anything with it. And it is by far the most secure. If anyone hacks into your Linux system, that's going to be 99% your fault, because any good distro of Linux is secure by default. It's more difficult to get things working the way you want with Linux, but you can customize it WAY more than you can customize Windows. It's also more robust and scalable than Windows. You can have tons of services running on even a desktop PC and you'll never notice it. Those services just don't slow it down, like they would on Windows.
  
  Chrome is by far the lightest OS, so it's best for less powerful hardware.
  
  While we're at it, we could include Android, OSX (Mac) and iOS (iPhone). Of the three Android is my favorite, but its performance is not nearly as good as iOS. That's why an Android phone has to have a fast multi-core processor and lots of RAM compared to an iPhone. An iPhone runs fast and smooth with 1/4 the processing power of an Android phone.
  
  As for OSX, it's based on BSD (basically Unix), so it's a robust operating system. However, since it's exclusively under the control of Apple, you have to depend on Apple to keep it running smoothly and safely.

  It is widely-believed that a Chromebook’s strongest point is that it goes onto the Internet faster, cheaper, safer, and easier that Windows. Critics point out that Windows gives you a wide choice of browsers, but Chrome is better regardless of what browser Windows uses. When we have Mexican kids come over to use our laptops, they usually choose the Chromebook first, because it gets them to Facebook and YouTube better than Windows does. Chrome gets 1 point.
  
  With Linus and Windows 10 on the same machine, I see no difference in speed. So? Linux is safer from malware, so it comes in #2, getting 0 points. Windows does go well on the Internet, but its vulnerability to malware gives it a -1.

  I mentioned the innards of Windows being a mess. Here's why:
  
  The core of Windows was designed as a single-user, single-tasking operating system where all applications would use a single repository of shared libraries (DLLs). All of this would be managed by a single database called the registry. (Windows 3.x gave the appearance of being multitasking because you could switch between applications. But in reality, only one application ran at any given time. And Windows 9x and NT gave the appearance of being multi-user, but only one user could be logged in at a time.)
  
  This original design has made it extremely difficult for Windows to transition into a real operating system. If you looked into the inner workings of Windows 10, you'd see that it's still held together with chewing gum and duct tape. It's comprised of dozens of patches and workarounds to make it behave more like Linux. The difference is that Unix/Linux was designed from the ground up as a multi-user multitasking operating system. It required no patches and appendages to make it work that way.
  
  I could write a whole book on what Windows had to patch and add in order to behave more like Linux. I have to applaud Microsoft for finally making it work pretty well in Windows 7 and Windows 10, but any real programmer who understood what they're doing to make it work would cringe.

  I admit that I had done my research first, but when I got my first Chromebook, I got started with no problems. Everything else was easy to figure out, although I did learn some fancy tricks by asking online. 1 point for Chrome
  
  I was dismayed at the learning curve of Linux, but it was still easier than Windows 10 (and I am an experienced Windows user who writes on Windows forums). But I was able to find online help easily, and I have benefited from downloading a free, well-written book. 0 points for Linux
  
  I can run Windows 10 very well. But there are so many problems that on their forums, most of their solutions don’t work. And in my early days, starting with Windows 3.11, I had a much harder time than I do with Linux. Windows gets a -1.

  Windows leads the pack, and it isn’t even close. Free programs such as e-Sword are far superior to anything offered by the competition. Even using bookmarks to use online Bible programs are not as good as the free downloads that Windows has. Windows gets 1 point.
  
  Linux is better than Chrome, but I still reject it in favor of Windows. Linux gets a “0.”
  
  I installed the best Chrome Bible program I could find, but it is so unimpressive that I never use it. -1 here, Brethren.

  You can run windows software on Linux. Granted. Its buggy at times. I've have run E-Sword with wine before on Linux. Not impressive... but it works.
