What you are describing, and what countless others have been ostracized from,
after pointing out for over a century now, is a cult.
It's a long story that I will spare you the details of. But my grandfather, who had been a member of J Frank Norris's church in the 1930s, tried to warn me off the cultish phenomenon known as Independent Baptist Fundamentalism when I was a teenager.
I didn't listen.
I was raised Southern Baptist, and saved at age 7. But from the moment I was first exposed to an IFB church I was so overwhelmed, and then so completely distracted by all the windstorms, earthquakes and fires going on around that "movement" that I had no ear for what either my grandfather, or the still small voice inside, was trying to tell me.
I not only joined a church in the Fundamentalist movement, but married the daughter of one of it's many fanatical sycophants.
That is when I learned just how deep their desire to control everyone around them is seated. And how far they are willing to go to see their desires carried out.
I did not stay in the IFB fold for very long, and the rest is now history. Many chapters of which involve me driving fervent followers of Fundamentalism to apoplexy by telling them the same things my grandfather told me.
But I believe your post hit the nail on the head. It's just the same ole same ole,
And it has been going on for a very long time.
Ecc 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
